Summer Evening Course for A2-2012

Very varied group of several nationalities (Japanese, Nepali, English, South African, Vietnamese, Polish, Italian, Spanish….) and also different  language levels within A1-A2 came to learn at  UJOP.  Even after quite some experience it  is sometimes challenging to manage the tutoring of such a diversified group. Every student is specific, everyone knows something but these people need to work on the stable basis (basic grammar and how to use it, basic dialogues,  understanding people “in the street”). Luckily they are all very motivated and willing to work hard. Tests every week enables us to see the progress or what else needs to be done. My goal is to stabilize the basic “ground”:useful words, phrases, day to day Czech, accusative in lively situations and phrases, adverbs and orientation, past tense, ability of making questions. Its also challenging to “keep the track” and not to get tempted by all questins about how  the Czech works. The course is finishing with a terrain work where students need to “really communicate with people in the street”.

This was a very pleasant and motivated group of people eager to learn Czech. It was my pleasure to tutor this group as they were really hardworking (it doesn´t always happen in evening courses where everyone rushes after work to be there).  For me it meant more creativity in thinking out some good practice materials and ways of explaining grammar (so that it would get into context of usage). Thank you! (the textbook:”Easy Czech”, “Czech Step by Step”, my own materials)
