This is my second experience with teaching a very big group of Asian students. This group is very eager to learn Czech and these young people are planning to study or work here (in Czech language). They are also very interested in Czech culture, traditions and habits. This intercultural experience is also very interesting for me. My goal was that everyone would be able to speak and understand better. We focused on basic grammar and mainly on how to really use it while speaking. We do lots of speaking and productive activities but always make sure the grammar is used in a good way.
The ability to formulate simple questions appeared very fundamental. Understanding how to use Czech verbs in the word order and how tenses work etc. are in my opinion essential in comparisn to the Czech declination. It was hard to realize that even if you know “some declination” people wouldn´t understand you just because you are not able to connect a verb with a noun. We were also working hard on pronounciation and spelling. I understood that even the learning proces is sometimes harder in the beginning it´s worth patiently “building the basis” and “equiping speakers with good understanding of the basis”. On that you can slowly step by step build the ability to understand and speak. We were using the textbook “Krok za krokem” and lots of my own materials.
